Major Differences Between Counseling and Coaching
Counseling
Focuses on emotional healing, mental health, and psychological well-being
Incorporates evidence-based modalities including EMDR, CBT, and Brainspotting
May address trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health concerns
Explores past experiences and patterns that impact current functioning
Provided by a licensed mental health professional
Includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning when appropriate
Clients must reside in a state where I am licensed or registered to provide counseling services
Insurance may be accepted depending on coverage and eligibility
Coaching
Focuses on personal growth, goal achievement, and future-oriented change
Does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions
Emphasizes action steps, accountability, mindset shifts, and personal development
Helps clients improve confidence, habits, performance, and overall direction
Available to clients residing in any state
Coaching services are not covered by insurance
